This postcard captures a peaceful stretch of the old Somme River (La Vieille Somme) near Rivery, just northeast of Amiens.
Rivery, a commune on the outskirts of Amiens, lies along a meandering offshoot of the Somme River. The “Vieille Somme” (Old Somme) refers to an older natural branch of the river, often bypassed by more modern canal works. In the early 20th century, this waterway retained its rustic charm, providing a haven for fishermen, rowers, and nature lovers.
