Baccarat - Wall sconce (2) - Gilt bronze - Elkington & Co.

This pair of wall sconces by Baccarat, crafted in gilt bronze, exemplifies the artistry of early 20th-century decorative lighting fixtures. Baccarat is renowned chiefly for its fine crystal works, but it also produced luxurious bronze fittings and lighting accessories, often in collaboration with prestigious makers like Elkington & Co. The gilt bronze material, a bronze base coated with a thin layer of gold, lends a rich, luminous quality and resistance to tarnishing. Such wall sconces were typically designed for use in grand interiors, combining practical illumination with ornate, artistic metalwork. Elkington & Co. further contributed to the British hallmark of metal craftsmanship and electroplating techniques. These sconces reflect the elegance and opulence associated with Art Nouveau and early Art Deco styles, making them prized pieces for collectors of fine decorative arts.
