Balance or scale - Metal, Iron - Swing Balance “Sun”

A swing balance scale made of metal and iron, often referred to as a 'Sun' balance, is a traditional weighing instrument characterized by a suspended beam that balances weights against objects. Such scales have been historically used for precise measurements in markets, apothecaries, and laboratories before electronic scales became widespread. The iron construction ensures durability and weight stability, while the design often includes ornate or symbolic motifs, such as sun imagery, signifying enlightenment or clarity. Collectors and those interested in vintage scientific instruments value swing balances for their mechanical ingenuity and aesthetic appeal.
