Divers - 8 stereofoto's van jachtstillevens, ca. 1860

Stereofotographs from around 1860 capturing still lifes related to yachting highlight an intriguing niche within early photographic subjects. These images likely showcase arrangements or compositions characteristic of maritime leisure, possibly depicting models or trophies associated with yacht racing, a popular pastime among the affluent during the mid-19th century. Stereoscopic photos offered a lifelike depth perception by combining two images taken from slightly different angles, viewed through a stereoscope. Such photographic works illustrate both the technical explorations in early photographic processes and the social contexts of the time, where maritime pursuits were celebrated symbols of status and adventure. Their survival offers valuable insights into period aesthetics, hobbies, and photographic innovation.
