Elkington & Co is historically renowned for its high-quality silver-plated wares, and a rare antique fish cutlery set from this maker is a noteworthy collector's item. Fish cutlery sets are specialized utensils designed to enhance the dining experience when eating various fish dishes. Typical components include fish forks and fish knives, which feature distinctive shapes: fish forks often have a wide left tine to help separate delicate fish flesh from bones, while fish knives often have a broad, flat blade ideal for lifting and flaking sections of fish. Silver plating was a popular and accessible alternative to solid silver cutlery, providing an elegant appearance with a durable finish. An original presentation case suggests the set was designed as a refined table service, likely used for formal dining occasions. With 16 pieces, such a set provides complete service for multiple diners, emphasizing both aesthetic appeal and practical function. Collectors and enthusiasts value these pieces for their craftsmanship, design, and connection to traditional Western dining etiquette.
