Hamelink - The Beautie Queens

The Beautie Queens is a large and striking artwork by Hamelink, featuring four men in suits at the center. The title is deliberately chosen sarcastically and serves as a wink to status, group behavior, and the façade that people often adopt within systems.
The figures do not wear real crowns — their 'beauty' lies precisely in their uncomfortable posture, their masks, and their caricatured, almost awkward expressions.

The bright yellow background gives the work a direct, powerful presence. It feels both humorous and critical: a typical Hamelink commentary on roles, expectations, and the theater of everyday life.
