Icon - Wood - THE VIRGIN
An icon depicting The Virgin is a religious artwork traditionally found in Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Typically crafted in wood, such icons serve both liturgical and devotional purposes, representing sacred figures with symbolic imagery and stylized aesthetics. Woodcarving for icons provides a durable base for tempera or gilded painting and often includes detailed relief work enhancing the spiritual presence of the figure. The Virgin Mary holds a central place in Christian iconography as a symbol of purity and maternal intercession, and icons of her are revered objects meant to inspire prayer and reflection for believers.
