Philips - Reels (Metal Look) - 18 cm reels with tape - 1980
Philips metal-look 18 cm reels with tape from 1980 are representative of magnetic tape media used for audio recording on reel-to-reel players. The 18 cm (approximately 7 inch) reels were commonly employed for professional and consumer audio recording before digital formats took over. The 'metal look' likely describes the reel's finish or design aesthetic typical of the era. These tapes are historically significant as durable physical media for analog sound capture, often valued by collectors and preservationists. Understanding such reels includes knowledge of tape formulation, reel sizes, and their role in audio history.
