Regina, Gouda - Jar - Earthenware, plateel - cachepot, gloss enamel

This earthenware jar, produced by Regina in Gouda, is a fine example of Plateel pottery, a Dutch decorative art style that flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Earthenware is a porous ceramic fired at low temperatures and often glazed with bright, glossy enamels to achieve vivid colors and intricate patterns. Gouda plateel is particularly prized for its hand-painted floral and geometric designs, reflecting Dutch artistic heritage and craftsman traditions. This jar, functioning as a cachepot, serves both decorative and practical purposes, ideal for holding plants or as a standalone ornamental piece. Such ceramics represent a blend of artistry and utility, embodying regional styles and the craft revival movement in the Netherlands during the early 20th century.
