Relief, Bassorilievo Tondo con Cesto di Frutta Dipinta - 1 cm - Plaster

This artwork is a round bas-relief (bassorilievo tondo) featuring a painted basket of fruit, crafted in plaster with a subtle relief depth of about 1 cm. Bas-relief is a sculptural technique where the shapes are raised slightly from the background, creating a three-dimensional effect while maintaining a flat overall surface. Traditionally, bas-reliefs have been used since antiquity to decorate architectural elements, often depicting natural themes such as fruits, flowers, or symbolic motifs. The depiction of a fruit basket is a classic still-life subject symbolizing abundance, nourishment, and the gifts of nature. When painted, plaster reliefs gain added depth and realism through color, enhancing their decorative appeal. Such pieces are often displayed as wall ornaments or incorporated into classical interior designs, reflecting artistic traditions of combining painting and low relief sculpture for elegant visual interest.
