Roman Empire. Diva Faustina. Denarius AVGVSTA (No reserve price)
Diva Faustina refers to Faustina the Elder, wife of Emperor Antoninus Pius and mother of Marcus Aurelius, honored posthumously with the title 'Diva'. Coins bearing her image were struck to commemorate her deification, a common practice in Roman imperial cult to legitimize and venerate imperial family members. The denarius featuring the legend AVGVSTA indicates her imperial status. Such coins provide insight into the role of imperial women and the religious-political culture of the Roman Empire in the 2nd century AD.
