Roman Empire. Elagabalus (AD 218-222). Denarius VICTORIA AVG (No reserve price)
Elagabalus, ruling from AD 218 to 222, was known for his controversial religious reforms and eccentric reign. Denarius coins from his period, such as those featuring VICTORIA AVG (Victory of the Emperor), highlight martial success and divine favor themes favored in imperial coinage. The silver denarius was central to Roman currency and typically bore a portrait of the emperor on the obverse with iconography on the reverse reflecting Rome's values, military achievements, or religious allegories. Coins from Elagabalus offer fascinating insights into the politics and culture of a turbulent chapter in Roman history.
