Roman Empire. Probus (AD 276-282). Antoninianus Ticinum mint - CONCORD MILIT (No reserve price)
The Antoninianus was a Roman coin introduced in the 3rd century as a silvered denomination, initially valued at two denarii. This one, from the reign of Emperor Probus (AD 276-282), was minted in Ticinum (modern Pavia, Italy), a notable mint in late Roman times. The reverse inscription CONCORD MILIT highlights military harmony or unity, an important message during Probus' efforts to restore stability amid internal revolts and external threats. Probus was a soldier-emperor who emphasized strong military discipline. His coinage often reflected martial themes and support for the army, central to maintaining the empire’s cohesion during the Crisis of the Third Century.
