Carved from indigenous wood, this figure originates from the Songye people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Known as nkisi, these power figures embody protective and spiritual force, often serving as guardians for individuals, families, or entire communities. Traditionally activated by ritual specialists, they were believed to harness ancestral and spiritual energies, warding off misfortune and restoring balance. With their bold geometric forms and commanding presence, Songye figures are both works of art and vessels of power, carrying deep cultural resonance and meaning.
