Vase - Stoneware - Japan - Same-hada Texture (No reserve price)

Japanese stoneware vases are celebrated for their robust yet refined aesthetic, often reflecting the natural textures and subtle color variations that stoneware clay imparts. This vase features a Same-hada texture, a term denoting a sharkskin-like surface marked by fine, subtle granularity, achieved through specific firing processes and expert craftsmanship. Japanese potters historically valued such textures, which evoke organic, tactile qualities that harmonize with traditional Japanese aesthetic concepts like wabi-sabi — the appreciation of imperfection and natural beauty. Stoneware pottery from Japan is also esteemed for its utility and durability, made to endure daily use as well as ceremonial functions in tea or flower arrangements. Collectors appreciate these pieces for their understated elegance and insight into Japanese ceramic traditions.
