Zen Journey: With Comments on the 10 Ox-herding pictures and 5 Ranks of Tozan
My life’s journey has connected with Zen and other Buddhist traditions off and on for several decades. Other teachings, notably, Gurdjieff, Shaun de Warren, Douglas Harding, Ram Dass, Barry Long, Chuck Spezzano, Srinivas Arka, and Fred Davis among others... AND that greatest teacher – life itself, were interwoven and turned out just to be different paths to a common Centre, the same destination (or non-destination) Zen reveals.
Journey in the title is a reference to the dance between the seeker and what is sought, the beloved, a recurring theme in Vedic literature.
The 10 Ox-herding pictures and stages are used to introduce each chapter and there is an invitation to the readers at the end to experience for themselves Zen’s progressive 5 Ranks of Tozan (Dongshan).
