Figure - Kaminfächer - Brass

This brass figure is identified as a 'Kaminfächer,' which translates to 'fireplace fan' in German, indicating its traditional use as a decorative and functional object placed near a hearth. Such brass figures often served as fan-shaped fireplace accessories or ornate stands used to control or spread the fire's warmth and smoke. Crafted from brass, these figures not only reflect the warm golden hues characteristic of the metal but also demonstrate the metalwork skills of the artisans. Brass has been favored for such objects because of its heat resistance and ability to be formed into intricate patterns. Collectors appreciate fireplace accessories for their historical charm and as examples of domestic art from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
