Icon - Five saints - Brass

This brass icon featuring five saints is a fine example of religious artwork created through metalwork, often used in Eastern Orthodox traditions for devotional purposes. Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, offers warmth and durability, making it suitable for detailed religious figures and symbolic representations. The depiction of multiple saints on one icon allows for veneration of different holy figures simultaneously and often reflects thematic or liturgical connections among them. Such brass icons could be hand-hammered or cast, frequently adorned with intricate engravings or relief work to highlight the saints’ attributes and halos. These pieces serve both spiritual and artistic functions, and collectors value them for their craftsmanship and connection to religious heritage.
