Italy, Republic 100 Lire 1974 "Marconi" PROVA in Acmonital
The 1974 Italian Republic 100 Lire 'Marconi' PROVA coin is a trial or pattern piece, typically struck in Acmonital steel alloy. Prototype coins like this were used to test designs before mass production and are prized by collectors due to their rarity and experimental status. The 'Marconi' theme honors Guglielmo Marconi, a renowned Italian inventor and pioneer of long-distance radio transmission, celebrated on several Italian coins. Such coins exemplify Italian artistic craftsmanship and technological homage in mid-20th-century coinage.
