Sculpture, Bozzetto di San Girolamo in memento mori - 43 cm - Earthenware

The earthenware bozzetto sculpture representing San Girolamo (Saint Jerome) with a memento mori theme highlights a traditional Christian meditation on mortality. A bozzetto refers to a small-scale model or preliminary sketch sculpture, often used by artists to plan larger works. Saint Jerome, renowned for translating the Bible into Latin, is frequently depicted in art with symbols like the skull, symbolizing death and the transient nature of life (memento mori). Earthenware, a ceramic material fired at lower temperatures, allows for delicate modeling and carries a rustic charm. This 43 cm sculpture serves as a contemplative piece combining religious iconography with themes encouraging awareness of human mortality.
