Illuminating the Shadows Guided Journal Workbook: 90 days of Shadow Work for the Soul Suitable for Beginners and Beyond
Shadow Work can be defined as getting in touch with your negative emotions, so you are able to process them in
a healthy and helpful way. For many people, it's easy to identify with our positive emotions, loosely labelled peaceful, powerful, happy. The darker emotions, sadness, anger, and fear, tend to be pushed down, repressed, and suppressed. We instinctively notice that it is more "difficult" to face these emotions. Instead, we unconsciously get triggered, defensive, or act impulsively based on this "dark side" of our psyche.
All humans feel negative emotions AND positive ones. Conscious shadow work can bring to the surface unprocessed triggering feelings so that we can process them, feel them, and release our attachment to them.
Bringing the shadow side of your emotions out into the light helps you form a new relationship with the side of yourself that you may see as shameful, unlikable, unreasonable, or wounded. As you expose these hidden thoughts, you become able to make new connections, new choices, new patterns of thought and action, and new outcomes.
